Though only Rahul was careful enough to not miss on a small but important detail to give me the precise answer, I’ll be generous and give away points to all who attempted it and got the basic funda right.

This movie, released in 1998, is often considered the worst movie of all time. Made at an estimated budget of ten million dollars, it’s net gross, accounting for inflation, is less than how much the evergreen classic “Plan 9 From Outer Space” made when it was released, thus stealing the tag of the worst movie from it. On the way it also picked up a few Golden Raspberry award.
After watching the final cut of the movie, its director decided to disown it. The film’s concept though triggered a chain of events which ultimately led to an old Hollywood practise being officially discontinued. What practice? What movie?
Quoting John – “The movie is “An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn”. Made on a budget of $10 million, it grossed $45,000, making it the worst flop ever.
The name Alan Smithee is what the Directors Guild of America mandated for use when a director wants to disown a movie – say, for not being able to exercise her creative control over the final product. This movie was about a director called Alan Smithee (Eric Idle) objecting and then stealing the final cut of a movie and eloping, as he can’t use the pseudonym since it is his own name (I know, it takes a while to parse that). The real director (Arthur Hiller) had an Alan Smithee moment when this movie was being edited, so the movie was released as per DGA norms with direction credit to Alan Smithee. But the associated publicity caused the DGA to “retire” the Alan Smithee pseudonym.”

One of Lynn Berg’s many alter egos. This one was named after a former prison-mate of a performer who he is probably trying to imitate. Name the two prison mates.

Sergey Brin had this to say about Rajeev Motwani after his death. “Today, whenever you use a piece of technology, there is a good chance a little bit of Rajeev Motwani is behind it.”
In a similar vein, there is every chance that our man in the picture, holding what looks like a notebook, is behind every useful website you see (or have atleast heard of, if not already used) today. Who?
For bonus point, name the imposing figure he’s conversing with.
