What famous landmark in Europe gets its name from this western cape which was also witness to a landmark event?

I guess the clues were not good enough to crack it.
Answer:
Trafalgar Square.

The name comes from the battle of Trafalgar, which itself was named after Cape Trafalgar(pictured). The cape was originally named Taraf-al-Gharb, which literally meant Cape of the west or Western Cape in Arabic. Over the years it got corrupted to Trafalgar.
