“Hushpuppies. The fried snack is a traditional snack from southern USA and was apparently originally used to hush hungry dogs during hunting expeditions.
The shoe brand got its name when the creator of the shoe went down south and heard the story. He thought it an appropriate name for his new comfy shoes as the slang for sore feet was ‘barking dogs’ and he figured that the shoes were so comfortable that they would silence them.”
